has been on sale for a year now, and in that time, the car has garnered 24 awards around the world, including European Car of the Year and World Car of the Year 2013. It was also the first imported car to win Car of the Year in Japan in 34 years.

“The Golf will remain the most important model and a powerful engine for the Volkswagen brand,” said Dr. Martin Winterkorn, CEO of VW Group.

In one year, VW has produced 500,000 Golfs worldwide, and it is still not on sale in China or the United States. It is the bestselling car in several European markets, including Germany. VW is also still prepping the Golf SportsvanVolkswagen Golf VII Van 1...Germany, 2013 > present, electric e-GolfVolkswagen e-GolfGermany, 2014 > present and Golf Plug-in Hybrid for next year, and the Golf Estate has just gone on sale in Europe.

The Golf has been the backbone of the VW brand since it was introduced in May 1974. As of June 2013, Volkswagen has sold 30 million Golfs worldwide.
