McLaren is preparing to launch a new Spider variant to its range. The
675 LT Spider will be on sale next summer and the first public presentation will take place at the Geneva Motor Show 2016.
With a similar design to the
675 LT Coupé, the main difference lies in the introduction of a three-pieces retractable hard roof which can be opened at speeds up to 30km/h. When retracted, the hood is kept in the rear of the vehicle underneath a panel. Compared with the 650S Spider, the 675 LT is 100kg lighter. With 1270kg it is 40kg heavier than the 675 LT Coupé.
The new Spider is equipped with the same V8 twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter of Coupé with 675hp and 700Nm of torque. However, for the Spider version McLaren indicates that almost half of the engine components were changed, including turbochargers, exhaust manifolds and the crankshaft. In terms of performance, McLaren got the Spider to feature the same performance levels of the Coupé variant. The 675 LT Spider can reach 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 326km/h. With an average fuel consumption of 9.8l/ 100km, CO2 emissions are fixed at 275g/km.
Together with the 675 LT Coupé and the
650S, the 675 LT Spider is part of the McLaren Super series. The main rival of the new version will be, in terms of performance, the
Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the
Ferrari F12tdf.
Only 500 units of the new 675 LT Spider will be sold. The world premiere will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.
