Most sold models in Europe in the first half of 2014

Discover the list of the most popular models on the European market

The European car market continues to recover from record lows reached in recent years due to the economic crisis and the austerity policies.

The major European markets, the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain managed to increase sales in the first half of 2014 and contributed to the sales growth of 5.8%.

One of the biggest highlights was Spain that registered a growth of 18.8% thanks to the return of tax incentives and slaughter of vehicles. The UK had the highest growth in terms of number of sales, with more than 120,000 units sold in the first half of 2013. In Germany sales grew 2.4%, in France 2.9% and in Italy 3.4%.

Now let's find out which models were most successful among European drivers. The data is a responsibility of JATO Dynamics.

10. Renault Captur

The new SUV model in Renault's model range has captured the European drivers attention and is currently in tenth place of the most sold models in 2014. The model has seen 87,410 being sold so far this year.

9. Opel Astra

With sales falling 6.6% in the first six months of 2014, the Opel Astra still lands in ninth place in the most sold models ranking. So far this year the German brand has sold 97,336 units of the Astra.

The Nissan Qashqai is lying in eighth place in the list of the most sold models in the first half of 2014. However sales of the model have decreased 2.9% compared to 2013 to 110,474 units.

7. Peugeot 208

Peugeot's 208 model has been very important in the brand's financial recovery strategy. However its initial boost has started to disapear as sales have dropped in the first six months of the year 12.5% compared to last year. So far Peugeot has sold 119,686 of the 208 in 2014 and is lying in seventh place in the ranking of the most sold models in Europe.

4. Volkswagen Polo
