New 3-Cylinder Turbo Petrol Engine by Peugeot Citroën in 2013

PSA Peugeot Citroën has announced that it will be investing until 2013 at its La Française de Mécanique plant in Douvrin, in France, in order to prepare for the production of a new 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

The production of the Group’s new turbocharged engine is set to start in 2013, when the new powertrain should join the 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine currently under development. The new engine will have a production of 320,000 units per year.

La Française de Mécanique is currently responsible for the production petrol and diesel engines for Peugeot and Citroën Peugeot models and also the EP engine developed in partnership with the BMW Group.

The investment further confirms the Group’s commitment to maintain extensive engine production operations in France.

Commenting on the investment, Philippe Varin, CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën said, “By producing this new engine at La Française de Mécanique, we will be able to leverage world-class manufacturing expertise. And with its state-of-the-art environmental technology, the new powerplant will enable PSA Peugeot Citroën to strengthen its leadership in low-carbon vehicles.”
