on the 50th anniversary of the original car going on sale - Thursday, April 17, 2014. While the first generation had limited availability in Europe and Mustangs have been unofficially imported for ages, this will be the first time that the Mustang will be widely available in Europe.
The next generation will be narrower and have a shorter wheelbase than the current car. It might be slightly longer overall to meet crash standards.
The styling will be based on the Ford Evos concept. While it will not be identical, expect to see many styling queues from the Evos in the new Mustang.
The next generation will also drop a solid rear axle for the first time ever on a mass produced Mustang in favor of a multi-link rear suspension. The SVT MustangsFord SVT Mustang Cobra Co...United States of America, 2003 > 20043 photos
had independent rear suspensions, but they were sold in relatively limited numbers.
The One Ford strategy means that the next Mustang will be sold all over the world. Ford even announced that the next Mustang would come to Europe at its dealer event in Amsterdam before the Paris Motor Show.
Engines will be tuned to each region. The US will have three engine options: an Ecoboost four-cylinder, a V6 and V8. Some markets might not get the V8, and other might get a naturally aspirated four-cylinder as the base engine. Expect Ford to go to turbocharging, instead of a supercharging, on the next Shelby due to packaging reasons. It will also eventually introduce an eight-speed automatic.
We expect Ford to reveal more about the next Mustang at the North American International Auto Show in January.
