Chevrolet has debuted the new Trailblazer at the Bangkok International Motor Show, and it will go on sale in June beginning in Thailand. The car is meant to blend urban and off-road driving in a premium package.
The new Trailblazer looks aggressive with a chunky front end with a large wheel arches and fenders. It looks like it would be happy to play in the mud. Inside, it offers enough room for seven passengers over three rows. The car was designed at Chevy's South America Design Center in São Caetano do Sul, Brazil.
It is based on the same platform as the Chevy Colorado pickup, and the two trucks were designed in tandem. Designers lived in Thailand to understand the needs of the market and understanding the trucks and SUVs that the Trailblazer would compete against.
The new Trailblazer is available with a choice of two four-cylinder diesel engines with either rear- or four-wheel drive. The 2.5 liter diesel produces 150hp and 258lb-ft of torque and comes with a five-speed manual. The 2.8l diesel produces 180hp and 346lb-ft of torque and comes with the five-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic. Chevy says that additional powertrain options will come later, but it did not go into detail about them.
“True to its name, the Trailblazer will blaze the trail for new Chevrolet vehicles coming into the market. It has been built tough to offer Chevrolet customers everything they need from a heavy-duty SUV,” said Martin Apfel, president of GM Southeast Asia.
The Trailblazer is built on a body-on-frame truck chassis with an independent rear suspension. It comes with stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution and hill descent control standard.
Pricing and options will be released later.
