Next Generation Lexus ES Offered as Hybrid with Brand New Styling

Lexus has updated the ES platform for 2013, and it is adding a hybrid model to the lineup. The ES350 gets the new looks with the old 3.5l engine, but the new model is the ES300h that Lexus claims will get 40mpg combined. 

The styling of the new ES is a major upgrade over the old model. Not only does it get the new spindle grill, but the rest of the styling is clean and handsome. The wheelbase is 1.8in longer, and overall length is up 1in. It comes standard with LED running lights. The ES300h gets a hidden exhaust with integrated spoiler. 

Lexus says that it has worked to improve the interior visibility for the new generation. Lexus claims that the seats are more comfortable. It is also using liquid-filled engine mounts, more sound absorption and engine intake tuned not to intrude into the interior. Rear knee room is up 2.8in and legroom is up 4.1in. All versions come with Lexus Enform, which is an internet-connected system for apps and the radio. Hard drive-based navigation is an option and includes a backup camera. 

The ES is now split into two models- ES350 and ES300h. The ES300h uses a 2.5l four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle and four hybrid driving modes: Normal, Sport, Eco and EV. It has 200hp total and comes standard with 17in low-rolling resistance tires or optional 18in wheels. 

The new models will be out later this year. Lexus will reveal prices and technical specs for the ES300h closer to release.
