Volkswagen will be premiering its new CrossPolo at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show that starts next week. The new generation vehicle is the fourth model that completes the Polo series that started in 2009 with the base version Polo presentation. The Polo BlueMotion and the Polo GTI complete the series.
The new CrossPolo generation will be available in six different versions, three of them equipped with petrol engines and the remaining with diesel powertrains, with the power range going from 51 kW / 70 PS to 77 kW / 105 PS.
In the petrol engines the entry level is a 1.2 litre, which is followed by a 1.4-litre engine with 63 kW / 85 PS. The top petrol engine is the new 1.2 TSI, a turbocharged direct-injection engine that can reach 100 km/h in 9.9 and a top speed of 188 km/h. According to Volkswagen this engine has a fuel consumption (in the combined cycle) of 5.5 litres/km, representing CO2 emissions of 128g/km.
As for the diesel engines, they are all equipped with 1.6 litre engines, but are presented with different power levels: 55 kW / 75 PS, 66 kW / 90 PS and 77 kW / 105 PS. The three versions all have a consumption of 4.3 litres of diesel per 100 km in the combined cycle, emiting 113 grams CO2 per kilometre.
New design features, in the vehicle based on the Polo 5-door hatchback, include the unique bumpers, finished in an anthracite color and fitted with fog-lights and larger intakes. CrossPolo’s trademark silver anodized roof rails and the17-inch two-tone wheels are also feature in the new generation of the model.
The first deliveries of the new CrossPolo will start in May, with Vokswagen already accepting orders from the beginning of March. The market launch will then continue across Europe and Japan.
