, and it will carry through to the updated Leaf that will be on sale in the middle of the year. Asia and North America will get similar price cuts.
The price cut drops the after-government-incentive price to €25,990 in France or £23,490 in the UK. Since introduction, Nissan has sold 50,000 Leafs worldwide, which is under what it was hoping.
The upgraded car, which will be built at Nissan's Sunderland, England, factory for European buyers, weighs 80kg (176lbs) less than the current version and has a 6km (4 miles) longer range. The weight loss partially comes from the car's smaller charging unit. It also increases rear storage space 50l to 370l.
The updated gets a heat pump cabin heater, heated seats, heated steering wheel and heated ceiling in all trims. Nissan believes that this heats the car more efficiently than a conventional blower. The charging port is now lit with an LED light for charging the car at night.
The updated car goes on sale in the spring.
