with more torque, better economy and lower emissions. The new engine includes start/stop and new gear ratios for better efficiency.
"As well as the obvious advantages of lower emissions and improved fuel efficiency, the higher levels of torque from the new engine mean greater flexibility and more refined cruising as well enhanced in gear performance around town," said Paul Wilcox, head of Nissan marketing in Europe
The new engine improves torque by 15lb-ft to 192lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy falls to 4.2l/100km, a 0.6l/100km improvement. Emissions fall to 109g/km of CO2. It is the most fuel-efficient engine available in the Juke. Horsepower remains at 109hp from the previous version of the engine.
Nissan says it will take 11.2 seconds to accelerate to 100km/h and has a 175km/h top speed. These are the same figures as the previous version.
Other technical changes to the engine include new with piezo-electric fuel injection nozzles with a more precise spray pattern and a new low-inertia variable geometry turbocharger. It also has exhaust gas recirculation to bring the engine up to operating temperature more quickly, and a new lower friction, variable displacement fuel pump.
Nissan believes that the diesel engine will be a big seller because the previous generation 1.5-liter diesel accounted for 40% of sales.
