Nissan Juke: the all-new small Crossover presented

Nissan has presented the industry’s first small crossover. The Nissan Juke combines the robustness present in a SUV with a touch of sporting style. The new crossover will be available in the Japanese market in the summer and in Europe and the United States the Juke will be on sale in the autumn.

According to Colin Dodge, Executive Vice President of Nissan Motor Co, the launch of the small crossover is a reflection of Nissan’s to challenge the European industry conventions. He says “In the last five years we have enjoyed significant growth in a crowded European market. This has been achieved by challenging traditional patterns and moving away from the C and D segments. Instead, we have pioneered the introduction of crossovers. We started with Murano and then, in higher volumes, with Qashqai - a car which has far exceeded our expectations.”

The new Nissan Juke will be powered by three different engines when it goes on sale in Europe in the autumn. The top of the range version of the small crossover will be equipped by Nissan’s new turbocharged petrol engine (MR16DDT) with direct injection. As one of the most powerful engines in its class it develops 190PS and has a maximum torque of 240 Nm.

In terms of its design the Nissan Juke, based on the Nissan Alliance B platform, combines the pure SUV characteristics, such as thick wheels, wide tyres, extended ground clearance and a strong stance, with a sports car style, with a high waistline, slim visor-like side glass graphics and a coupé-style falling roofline. The door handles hidden in the frame door enhance Juke’s coupe look. In the interior another design feature can be fond with the centre console inspired by a motorcycle fuel tank.
