Nissan is preparing the launch of a new model Z and apparently it may well be a crossover. In a preview of what might become this new vehicle, the Japanese brand unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show the
Gripz with a radical design that can create a new kind of sports car category.
According to Nissan, the Gripz seeked inspiration in the
Datsun 240Z rally car that won the East African Safari Rally in 1971. In addition, sports bikes that serve as commuting tools during the week and also as fun over the weekend also served as a source of inspiration.
The striking Gripz design is immediately distinctive thanks to the radicals lines along the C pillar, the cut that goes through the side area of the vehicle and the carbon fiber hood painted in black. The protruding front with the Nissan logo is another striking element of the Gripz design. The steering wheel inside the concept also draws inspiration from rally wheels with three spokes.
In terms of dimensions the Gripz is, with 4100mm, shorter than the
Juke and has a 65mm lower roof line. However it is 135mm wider and the wheelbase is 50mm longer.
The engine in this new concept is Nissan's PureHybrid system that uses a petrol engine as a range extender, keeping the batteries charged, and the electric motor to send power to all four wheels.
