Nissan-Renault Alliance Wants More Public Support for EVs

Alliance, gave a speech at the Rio+20 electric mobility conference in Brazil on June 18 and said that governments around the world need to do more to promote EVs. 

"The countries that get most respect for their 'green' initiatives are actively encouraging clean cars: They provide incentives. They let EVs use bus lanes, they let them park for free and they give tax benefits to people who buy them," he said.

He also said that electric vehicles are no longer the future. The Alliance has already sold over 40,000 electric vehicles in only a few years. Now it is time to start building infrastructure. 

Rio+20 brought together 50,000 delegates from governments and business to discuss sustainability. It was organized by the United Nations, Electrobras Furnas, which is a Brazilian energy company, and Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association.
