has opened its new Nissan Research Center Silicon Valley tech center in Silicon Valley that will focus on autonomous cars and connected driving.

Nissan has decided to open research centers in strategic areas where it can take advantage of local partners. Nissan and Renault had had a technology research valley in Mountain View, California, but this new center is larger and will allow for more workers. The center will focus on developing autonomous driving technology, car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure connectivity and develop better user interfaces for its vehicles to make these technologies more user friendly.

"As we continue to expand our R&D capabilities throughout the world, we aggressively pursue our activities to create new values of mobility, by harnessing the latest information and communication technologies here in our new research center in Silicon Valley,” said Nissan head of research and development Mitsuhiko Yamashita.
