taxis in Sao Paulo, Brasil. For now, it is just a pilot program to see if electric taxis would work in the city. The first two will begin operating in just a few weeks.

The Leaf taxis will drive around a predetermined route through Sao Paulo. Nissan do Brasil will supply eight more cars later in the year. Nissan hired taxi drivers from Sao Paulo and trained them in how to best drive Leaf.  The drivers will be queried regularly about their needs from the Leaf, and their thoughts on the car.

Nissan is placing 15 charging points along the taxis' route. Five of the charging points are quick chargers that can top up the Leaf in 30 minutes. The other 10 units would take 8 hours to fully charge the Leaf.

"Nissan is the manufacturer who is leading the zero emission program for cars. Within this pilot program in Sao Paulo, we reaffirm our global mission of promoting friendly environment without compromising the comfort of urban mobility," said François Dossa, Administration & Finance VP of Nissan do Brasil.
