The FIA released a statement June 29 confirming that for the 2014 Formula 1 season cars will be powered by turbocharged 1.6 liter V6 engines with KERS.
According to the statement, “Following a fax vote by its members, the World Motor Sport Council has ratified the engine regulations recently drawn up in consultation with the main stakeholders in Formula One.”
There had been a disagreement between Formula 1 officials and teams over the future engine specification. The original plan by F1 officials had been for turbocharged 1.6 liter, four-cylinder engines to take over in 2013.
