Opel unveils fifht generation Corsa

revealed the first images and information about the fifth generation of the best selling model of the German brand: the . The new generation has its world premiere scheduled for the Paris Motor Show in October.

The new Corsa stands out for better performance, thanks to improvements in chassis, engine and transmission performance levels. One new feature is the introduction of the new three-cylinder 1.0 Turbo Direct Injection petrol engine. The vehicle gets a new suspension and steering has been optimized to raise the levels of comfort and dynamic behavior of the new Corsa. The interior has been completely renovated, improving the level of quality and space, while also offering modern technology as the IntelliLink infotainment system and various driving safety systems.

"The Corsa has always been a success, especially the lines and the efficient use of space as compact dimensions," says Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann. "This is a decisive factor in the longevity of the success of our model. Obviously, the new generation keeps this appealing side. Thanks to many new technologies, we also offer a fantastic driving experience that raises standards in this class of automobiles. The fifth generation of the Corsa will have many surprises."

This fifth generation Opel Corsa keeps offering five and three-door variants and one of the features by which the model is best known, the use of space. In terms of design the front of the new Corsa is distinguished by the prominent grille and headlights designed with several details, including the signature highly visible 'wing' on the LED running lights. At the rear features lines that visually accentuate the width of the vehicle, with the rear lights contributing to it.

During the development of the new Corsa, Opel engineers were designed primarily to give the driving model characteristics and behaviors found in models of upper segments. The new suspension and a new direction is the main result of this strategy. The suspension does not use any component of the current Corsa. The stability in straight and curve has been improved thanks to a 5mm lower center of gravity, the more rigid sub​​-chassis and new suspension geometry. The road handling, steering precision and features of understeer improved across the board compared to the previous generation. An improvement in damping allows to filter and better absorb road irregularities.

Along with the new direction of the mechanical configuration, technicians created a new 'software' for the electric assist system. A novelty is the 'City' mode, activated by a button on the dashboard, which reduces the effort the driver must apply on the steering wheel when moving slowly or making maneuvers. As in the current Corsa, the chassis can have two settings: Comfort and Sport. The Sport option has harder springs and bumpers as well as a geometry and calibration of different direction, ensuring a more direct response.

A great feature of the fifth generation Astra is the new 1.0 Turbo engine with three cylinders, with direct gasoline injection. With aluminum construction, this compact engine fulfills the Euro 6 emissions standards and will be available in two power outputs: 90hp and 115hp. In both variants it stands out for its response at low revs thanks to 170Nm of torque available at 1800 rpm. The start/stop system is fitted as standard.

The engine range also includes a new 1.4 Turbo with 100hp of power and 200Nm of torque, as well as new developments in the natural aspirated 1.2 and 1.4. The turbodiesel option will be the 1.3 CDTI which will be available in 75hp and 95hp versions. Both diesel variants were fully revised and include significant upgrades and now fulfill the Euro 6 emissions standard. At launch, Corsa's more economical version with 95 hp, five-speed manual gearbox and start/stop, will emit only 89g/km of CO2. In the spring of 2015 there will be other versions of low emissions.

The introduction of new transmissions on the Corsa range is also a novelty. Both versions of the 1.0 Turbo Direct Injection are combined with a totally new and extremely compact six-speed manual gearbox. Will also be part of the range the latest automatic gearbox six-speed manual gearbox and a new robotic Easytronic 3.0.

The new generation Corsa offers a number of driving assistance systems, which include the directional bi-xenon headlights, a blind spot alert and the Opel Eye camera - with recognition of traffic signs, lane departure warning, automatic switching medium/maximum, indicating distance to the vehicle ahead and imminent collision warning. The new Corsa also offers a permanent system for monitoring tire pressure.

The fifth generation of the Corsa will also be available with the new system Advanced Park Assist, able to automatically control the direction in parking maneuvers, and the rear camera and hill climb start assist.
