By 2015 the Opel/Vauxhall brand plans on releasing an SUV based on the Insignia platform. This will bring a new lease on life to their Future Large Vehicle project which was scrapped in 2008 due to the global recession.
The motivation for this project stems from Chinas potential market as well as the need for a car that has greater appeal than the current Ford Mondeo rival, the Insignia. With Peugeot and Citroen launching production versions of the SxC Concept, the Opel brand can’t afford to miss out on this opportunity.
What we know about this SUV is that it will seat up to seven passengers with flexibility and practicality high on the priority list. The vehicles will have a typical SUV ride height and be driven by either the front or all four wheels.
For those in America, a possible Buick variant of this SUV may be produced since various Opel products are sold as Buicks in that market.
By looking at their latest models like the Astra and Insignia, things seem to be on the up and look promising for the Opel/Vauxhall brand.
