continues its bet on more sporty models based on its hatchback range. This time it was the turn of the 308 to receive the GTI badge, a five-door vehicle with a maximum output of 270hp and it will face competition from the Seat Leon Cupra, the Ford Focus ST, VW Golf GTI and Renault Mégane RS.

The 308 GTI308 GTIPeugeot 308 GTIFrance, 2015 > present gets the same 1.6-liter THP petrol engine used previously on the RCZ R. There will be two versions of the GTI 308 available, with 270hp and 250hp respectively. Despite reduced emissions of 139g/km, the GTI can reach 100km/h in 6 seconds. Both front wheel drive versions will be combined with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The main difference between these two versions is the presence of a limited slip differential by Torsen on the most powerful version. As the RCZ R and the 208 GTI 30th edition208 GTi 30th EditionPeugeot 208 GTi 30th EditionFrance, 2014 > 2014, the 308 GTI was jointly developed with Peugeot Sport, the performance division of the French brand.

Compared to the recently released 308 GT, the GTI is still closer to the ground (minus 11 mm) with firmer springs. Shock absorbers have also been recalibrated and the 270hp version rolls on 19 inches wheels, while the 250hp gets 18 inches wheels.

A major challenge for engineers at Peugeot Sport was managing the torque and the interaction of the new differential with the electric steering. Deciding was simpler to allow the driver to turn the ESP, as well as the introduction of the larger front brake discs (380mm).

Peugeot says that the best comparison vehicle for the 308 GTI will be the VW Golf GTI and not so much the Renault Megane RS. In terms of design the French brand was modest. A unique black grille, spoilers and additional air intakes, sill extenders, a diffuser in gloss black and double exhaust pipes were added to the 308 GTI.
