has finally confirmed that production of the 918 Spyder - its next supercar - will begin in September 2013, and the car is in final testing around Stuttgart now. The first deliveries will be later in 2013.

“What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance,” said Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche board member

LMP2 race car tuned to 570hp. There are also two electric motors, one on front axle for the front wheels and one on the drive axle for the rear wheels. The motors bring total power to more than 770hp, according to Porsche. However, fuel consumption is 3.0l/100km.

Beyond the engine, the 918 is packed with technology. The monocoque is made from CFRP; it has adaptive aerodynamics, which Porsche has not shown yet; and it has adaptive rear-axle steering. Total weight of the development version was 3,700lbs.

The development version accelerated to 60mph in three seconds, 124mph (200km/h) in less than nine seconds and had a 202mph top speed. Although, the road version could be slightly different.

It looks quite nice, and hopefully is a bit more compact than the Carrera GT.
