Rumors of the car have been circulating for over a year. 

To save some development costs, parts of the car will come from the 918 Spyder. A strong possibility is that the car could use the 4.6-liter V8 from the 918 without the electric motors and batteries. That would put it on par with the listed competitors. 

Previous reports indicated that we would probably not see the 961 at auto shows even as a concept until 2015 at the earliest.
