and major surprise upgrade as the Cayenne Diesel SPorsche Cayenne S DieselGermany, 2013 > present6 photos
. It drops the previous 3.0-liter V6 diesel in favor a 4.2-liter V8 diesel with start/stop. Power is upgraded by 137hp and 300Nm of torque over the V6 to 382hp and 850Nm of torque.
The larger engine accelerates the Cayenne S Diesel to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds with a 252km/h top speed. The V6 takes 7.6 seconds to accelerate to 100km/h and has a top speed of 220km/h. The new engine uses 8.3l/100km of diesel compared to 7.2l/100km from V6. The new 4.2-liter diesel will be able to two 3.5 metric tons.
Despite being a diesel, Porsche has tried to keep the Cayenne a real Porsche. Porsche says that it has tried to tune the diesel V8's exhaust to make it sound aggressive. It also gets standard all-wheel drive and optional torque vectoring. Porsche is also offering an optional 100l fuel tank that will give the truck a 1,200km range.
The Cayenne Diesel S is basically the same from the exterior. Porsche has given the car bigger brakes to cope with the extra power, and it added larger openings front and rear to feed more air to the engine and brakes.
The Cayenne Diesel S will go on sale in January 2013 for €77,684 in Germany where buyers must also pay 19% VAT. In markets without VAT, it will start around €62,924.
