The “red dot: best of the best” award was handed to Rolls-Royce Ghost, a model with a character and an appearance that is a reinterpretation of the classic values of the brand into the 21st century. The brand sees its work recognized with one of the most important awards in terms of design.
“This is a tremendous accolade for the entire Rolls-Royce design team”, said Ian Cameron, Chief Designer. “As a designer the challenge lies in translating ideas into a medium which others can see, touch and feel. We are very proud of what we have achieved with Ghost and are delighted to have been recognized with this very special award.”
The Ghost is dominated by its ‘Yatch Line’ style, with large, uninterrupted surfaces flowing between the horizontal lines that handle definition to the vehicle, enhancing its character. Its modern features include the self-righting wheel centres and the Xenon headlamps that frame the latest evolution of the Rolls-Royce grille.
The red award has been awarded since 1955 and is one of the most important awards in the world for product design. It was created to recognize design work in many different categories, which include not only automobiles but also architecture, household, home electronics, fashion, life science and medicine.
In 2008 another Rolls-Royce model also received the red award. In that year the design work made on the Phantom Drophead Coupé was recognized.
