smile once again with yet another presence on the podium. The Finn defended second place from the other Mercedes of Hamilton.
Although he is now 14 points behind Rosberg, Hamilton has no reason to feel disappointed with the third place finish since he managed to climb from 20th place at start to the lowest step of the podium. However this jump in the standings was not easy and the British driver didn't prevent some contacts with Adrian Sutil and Kimi Raikkonen. ' strategy. At the end of the day Hamilton was just 1.7 seconds behind Bottas.
With a two-stop strategy, Valteri Bottas achieved in Germany his third consecutive podium. In the opposite direction, Felipe Massa failed to finish after a contact with Kevin Magnussen in the first corner of the race. While Massa was forced to retire, Magnussen remained on track but far from the top positions. Australian Daniel Ricciardo also lost some ground in the chaos.
Sebastian Vettel eventually benefitted and climbed to third place momentarily. He would eventually fall a position and finish the race in fourth place, after another battle with Fernando Alonso. Daniel Ricciardo also approached the Spaniard in the final laps but had to settle for sixth place.
