celebrated 20 years of building cars at its Martorell factory on February 22. The factory was built over 34 months with production complete in 1993. Since then it has built over eight million cars.

Martorell was the first new Seat factory since the Zona Franca factory near Barcelona in 1950.  Construction of the new factory began soon after VolkswagenVolkswagenVolkswagenGermany, 1938 > present98 models

completed its purchase of Seat in 1990. The factory was cutting edge at the time and able to complete 1,500 cars a day. It covers 3 million square meters (1.15 square miles) and cost the modern equivalent of €1.5 billion to construct. There are two internal railways to deliver parts to the 12km-long assembly lines. Today, Martorell employs 11,500 workers directly and 46,000 people work at surrounding suppliers to the factory.
