concept since the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but the car is finally getting close to launch. Seat had originally planned to have it on sale in 2015, but it has been pushed back slightly for sales to start in 2016.

in size. A five-seat version will be the only version at launch. A seven-seater is being considered but has not been green lit.

The engine range will also be shared with the MQB platform, which means a range of turbocharged diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines. All-wheel drive will be available with some engines with multiple traction control modes selectable from the interior.

"We strongly believe that an SUV fits perfectly with the DNA of the Seat brand - but it has to have the right mix of technical development, be fun to drive, with an attractive design, and all at the right price,” said Matthais Rabe, Seat head of R&D.

The design of the production version will include optional full LED headlights and strongly creased body. The wheel arches will be guarded with plastic panels, and it will get a touch of bling with chrome roof rails.
