Sebastien Loeb won last weekend's Rally Argentina to take his 70th career victory in the WRC. By taking the win, he also became the series' points leader over Petter Solberg who is second in points.
During the rally on Friday, Loeb had fallen to fourth place due to three spins on the morning's stages. During the second half of the day, he took advantage of a broken steering wheel by Solberg and was able to move up to first where Loeb stayed during the rest of the competition. The single car entered by the Prodrive Mini team finished in 12th place. The two Minis entered by Portugal Mini suffered mechanical faults on the 17th stage and were unable to finish.
Loeb won by 15.2 seconds over his team mate Mikko Hirvonen who came in second in the rally. Dani Sordo was on pace to take third in a Ford but broke down during the power stage, and Mads Ostberg took the spot.
Petter Solberg won the power stage with Mikko Hirvonen in second, and Nasser Al-Attiyah in third.
Loeb (91 points) currently holds an 18 point lead over Solberg (73 points) in the drivers' championship standings. Mikko Hirvonen (70 points) is in thrid place and just three points away from Solberg.
Loeb's 70th win further shows his dominance of the WRC. The next driver below him in terms of wins is Marcus Gronholm who won 30 WRC rallies in his career, and the third most winning driver is Carlos Sainz who had 26 wins. It exemplifies Loeb's prowess behind the wheel that he has won more than double the events than the next best driver.
