has revealed the second generation Panamera by launching the with 416hp, an extended wheelbase version and brand new 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 for the Panamera S and 4S.

In terms of style, the second generation Panamera is a reinterpretation of the original car with tighter, more minimalist styling. The air intakes at the front are enlarged, and the rear window has a steeper rake and is wider for an even more coupe-like silhouette.

The new Panamera S E-Hybrid replaces the former Panamera Hybrid with a major technological upgrade. First, it is now a plug-in hybrid. The new hybrid doubles the electric motor’s power to 95hp from 47hp in the previous generation, and the battery has five times the charge with 9.4kWh versus 1.7kWh last gen. Charging takes two hours from a 220v outlet or four hours from a 120v outlet.

The battery improvements translate to a significant increase in fuel economy. It now uses 3.1l/100km and emits 71g/km of CO2. The pure electric range is 36km and can hit up to 135g/km of CO2 without activating the engine.

Even with all of the improvements to economy, the Panamera S E-Hybrid will out accelerate the previous generation to 100km/h by half a second to 5.5 seconds.

Porsche is also showing a long wheelbase version of the Panamera that it calls the Executive model. The biggest change is the 15cm of added wheelbase length. It is available as either the Turbo or 4S model. Both come with standard rear air suspension.

Porsche will also introduce a 300hp diesel, a 50hp increase, in early 2014.

Finally, Porsche is introducing a new biturbo V6 that will replace the previous 4.8-liter V8. It boasts 20hp more power, 20Nm more torque and 18% better fuel economy than the V8.

Porsche also gave its transmissions a slight update. The diesel and S E-Hybrid models get an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and the other models get a six-speed dual-clutch. Both now offer a coasting function and earlier activation of start/stop.

Options for the new generation will include full LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign detection and lane departure warning.

The second generation Panamera will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 21. Sales will begin in July with €81,849 for the diesel, €83,277 for the Panamera, €88,513 for the Panamera 4, €101,841 for the Panamera S, €107,196 for Panamera 4S, €110,409 for the S E-Hybrid, €121,595 for the GTS, €132,662 for the 4S ExecutivePanamera 4S ExecutivePorsche Panamera 4S Execu...Germany, 2013 > present2 photos
