At this year’s Auto China Mercedes-Benz will be presenting further developments of what might be the future of the Coupé concept with the premiere of the brand’s new concept: the Shooting Break. This four-door coupe concept continues the work already started with the Fascination concept presented in September 2008.
Clearly remembering the CLS design the Shooting Break is a wide and flat vehicle with a long bonnet and a roof which continues through to the rear. Although the front has been completely designed for this concept it certainly has some reminiscent features of the SLS AMG, such as the radiator grille, with the large star and bionic slats. Dynamism has been given to its profile by the beltline that goes towards the rear and the character line enhanced by the rear wheel arches. The coupé style is given by the low window design.
"The Shooting Break concept car is based on the great tradition of a stylish, cultivated sportiness which has always characterised the great Mercedes Coupés, and it takes this unique legacy an exciting step further," explains Professor Gorden Wagener, chief designer at Mercedes-Benz. "At the same time it points the way towards the future design idiom of Mercedes-Benz."
A powertrain of the forthcoming V-engine generation from Mercedes-Benz powers the Shooting Break concept. The V6 engine with a 3.5-litres and direct injection features a control system which enables lean-burn operation. With an output of 306 hp and maximum torque of 370 Nm the Shooting Break follows the BlueEFFICENCY philosophy of the German brand setting new standards in terms of fuel consumption.
