has erected a 36 ton replica of Stonehenge made out of recycled car parts on London's Southbank. Skoda calls it Citihenge.
The sculpture was unveiled to tie in with the summer solstice on June 20 and is positioned to sit on the ley lines like the real Stonehenge. The sculpture will tour the UK throughout the summer with its next stop being the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Sculptor Tommy Gun took three months to create Citihenge from 18 scrapped cars. Each henge is over five meters tall, five meters wide and can withstand hurricane winds. The vehicles used to create it had covered 1.9 million miles. It took less than 12 hours to erect the henges at the site.
Gun has also produced sculptures for the Tour de France and Chelsea Flower Show. He is known for his use of recycled mechanical parts.
“The Citihenge project has been the most amazing challenge. Stonehenge is a huge, iconic structure and the Citihenge replica is too. It is made entirely from old car parts, which taps into my own childhood growing up on a farm where I used to love building and creating things with pieces of discarded machinery," said Gun.
