Ahead of its official presentation at this year's Geneva Motor Show,
Skoda decided to reveal the
VisionS vehicle that serves as a preview to the new SUV model that the brand Czech is preparing to launch in 2017.
With three rows of seats, with capacity for six passengers and respective luggage, the VisionS gives a close look to what customers can expect from the new SUV from Skoda which hits the market next year. The concept is 4700mm long, 1910mm wide and features a height of 1680mm. When it reaches the market, the SUV of the Czech brand will be a clear competitor for models such as the
Kia Sorento and
Hyundai Santa Fe.
The concept is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.4-liter petrol engine with 156hp and an electric motor with 54hp installed on the six-speed DSG gearbox housing. In addition, the VisionS also has a second 115hp electric motor installed on the rear axle. This makes a combined output of 225hp, which makes the Vision S a smart four-wheel drive vehicle.
According to Skoda, the VisionS can reach 100km/h in 7.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 200km/h. With an announced average fuel consumption of 1.9l/100km, the vehicle emits 45g/km of CO2 and will have an electric range of 50km and hybrid range of 1000km.
Like the vast majority of hybrid vehicles, drivers may choose to drive the VisionS in electric or hybrid mode, with the gasoline engine to assist in vehicle performance and charging the battery.
In terms of design the VisionS keeps the same DNA from the 2014 VisionC concept, which introduced the brand's new design language. Based on the
Volkswagen Group MQB platform, the new SUV from Skoda will share much of its mechanics with the
CrossBlue that the German brand is set to launch later this year.
In addition to the model based on the VisionS, Skoda is already planning to launch a five-door coupe SUV. Later a sportier model is being prepared and Skoda's SUV family will be completed with the launch of the new generation
Yeti in 2018.
