Skoda goes electric with the Octavia Green E Line Concept

Skoda has presented at the Paris Motor Show its first-ever electric powered vehicle: the Octavia Green E Line concept. With the green car the Czech brand wants to demonstrate its innovative potential and technological competence in this growing area. Skoda has predicted the first fleet of test vehicles to come out in 2011.

“The Octavia Green E Line embodies the values of the brand absolutely perfectly - the vehicle combines the desire for individual mobility with our environmental goals”, said Škoda Auto BOD Chairman Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahland.

The Skoda Octavia Combi was chosen as the base vehicle for the Green E Line concept as it suited best the need to arrange the batteries electronic control units and the electric engine. The Green E Line concept delivers a constant power of 60 kW and maximum power of 85 kW. As it commonly happens in electric cars the torque is available right after the start and in this case is fixed at 270 Nm. The Octavia Green E Line is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in twelve seconds and to reach a maximum speed of 135 km/h (limited).

The energy needed to drive the Octavia Green E Line is supplied by a modern lithium-ion battery. This power source gives the electric car a range-per-charge of 140 kilometres, which is enough to meet the requirements of most everyday commuters in Europe.

Škoda Auto is planning to create a test fleet of Octavias Green E Line in 2011 with the objective of obtaining additional information relevant to the further development of the electric drive.
