Skoda launches new SUV Kodiaq

The Kodiaq will reach the market in 2017 but in the next three years Skoda is expected to launch four other SUVs to join it. Group’s modular MQB platform the new Skoda Kodiaq is 4697mm long, 1882mm wide and 1676mm fitted with roof rails. The Czech brand believes  the interior space and technology will make the Kodiaq a better value for money.

 

Skoda will also be offering the Kodiaq as a seven-seater SUV, a first for the brand. A boot capacity of 720 litres, 2065 with seats folded down, is said to be the largest on the market. 

 

The Kodiaq will be available with a range of five powertrains, two TDI and three TSI engines. With displacement between 1.4 and 2.0l output ranges from 125hp up to 190hp. All engines fulfil the  EU6 emission standards. All engines also feature a Stop-Start system, brake energy recovery and a powerful thermo-management system, contributing to low consumption.

 

The 2.0 TDI is available in two versions. The first version with 150hp and 340 Nm. The top-of-the-range version delivers 190hp and 400Nm of torque. The entry-level TDI has an average consumption of 5.0l/100km with 131g of CO2/km, while the most powerful diesel version accelerates the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6s and reaches a top speed of up to 210 km/h.

 

The range of petrol engines consists of two 1.4 TSI engines and one 2.0 TSI. The entry-level version with 125hp and 200Nm of torque consumes 6.0l/100 km, which corresponds to 140g of CO2/km. The more powerful 1.4 version has a 150hp output with 250Nm of torque. The latter features Active Cylinder Technology which shuts down the second and third cylinders when the load and engine speed are low. The top-of-the-range 2.0 TSI petrol engine features a new combustion process for high efficiency and has 180hp and 320Nm of torque.

 

The engines will be fitted with different transmissions. The Kodiaq will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox or DSG transmissions with six or seven speeds. The new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is making its debut at Skoda and was designed for powerful engines with torque of up to 600 Nm.

 

The new Skoda Kodiaq features an Off-Road driving mode which calibrates the chassis, engine and brakes and adjusts the car to rough terrain conditions and engages the Hill Descent Assist.

 

In terms of exterior design the Kodiaq is very similar to the VisionS concept which was shown earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. Inside the SUV is equipped with a 6.5in touchscreen as standard, with Bluetooth and SmartLink, which supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, available as options. Aditionally the buyer may opt for a 8.0in touchscreen with sat-nav function and also off-road and parking camera aids. A 64GB flash memory and DVD drive are also available and a WLAN wi-fi hotspot is optional.
