has finally reopened its museum in its renovated original factory in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic. It will display the company's 117-year history in films, photographs and many of the actual vehicles. The museum has 1,800m² of exhibition area including areas for visitors to watch classic cars in process of restoration.
Renovating the old factory took about nine months. The architects split the building into three zones - tradition, precision and evolution - displaying 46 cars. Each area displays a portion of Skoda's story.
The evolution area focuses on the brand's past with its earliest cars and films and photos showing its beginning. There are 14 vehicles displayed on the floor and 20 on a car shelf.
Tradition highlights vehicles in tandem. An older vehicle is paired with a newer model to show how the brand created its identity.
The final area is precision and will focus on production and restoration of Skoda's cars. Four classic cars will be restored here at a time until they can enter the museum display.
The new museum also has a 930m² space called the “Laurin & Klement Forum" for special events and product unveilings that seats 600.
“The new Skoda Muzeum is a special expression of this pride. It is a calling card, a meeting point, a communication platform and an attraction all in one, a multimedia place to experience our brand. In the years to come, Skoda intends to grow worldwide. When you think about overtaking, you need to look into your rear-view mirror regularly. This is what we do with the new museum, and we do so in a historic location in a fascinating way," said Skoda CEO Dr. Winfried Vahland.
