The Embassy Suites Nashville South in Nashville, Tennessee, has built a the world's first stretch limousine Nissan LeafNissan LEAFJapan, 2009 > present4 photos
. The hotel commissioned the car be built from a Missouri car tuner.
"This is the world's first road-worthy, licensed, street legal electric limousine, and this is it," said Trevor Goulding, director of sales for the hotel.
Hotel was in the market for a new shuttle vehicle, but its normal trip is less than five miles. Because the Leaf's electric motor is mounted in the front, front-wheel drive and the batteries are in the floor, modifying the Leaf into a limousine was not that difficult. The modifier just needed to be careful not to harm the batteries when modifying the car.
The limousine version weighs about 400lbs more than that standard car which brings the total weight to around 3750lbs. It also has a leather interior, cedar paneling and larger exterior mirrors. It carries eight passengers.
