According to a study conducted in the US and UK, women who combine friendliness, playfulness, flirtation and sexiness were able to get as much as a 20% discount off of a car. The study comes from the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
The study was conducted by telling 100 male and female volunteers that they were selling a car worth £750 and given written details about possible buyers. Half received the description of a women who flirted while negotiating by laughing, leaning forward, touching the seller's arm and flattering the seller. The other half received the description of women who conducted a more formal transaction.
Male sellers were only willing to give a discount to the flirtatious buyers, and on average they were willing to give a 20% discount. However, female sellers were not willing to give flirtatious female buyers a discount.
Laura Kray, one of the article's authors, said: "We found that flirtation, on the other hand, conveys assertiveness and power."
