The UK-based Green Car Web Site is reporting that a study done by Trend Tracker shows that consumers are not yet ready to buy full electric cars and hybrids are also unpopular.
Trend Tracker interviewed 1,000 people in the UK face-to-face in their homes about future car buying decisions. The results show that only 2% of respondents plan to buy a hybrid in the future and none plan to buy a full electric car. Of males 2% said that they would buy a hybrid and 1% of women said that they planned on buying one.
Petrol and diesel were the most popular fuels with 45% of those surveyed wanting a petrol-powered car and 42% wanting a diesel. Men were much more likely to want to buy a diesel in the future with 39% while only 28% of women want a diesel car. For petrol the breakdown is that 53% of women want it in their next car versus 43% of men.
Women are far more likely to want a low emissions car at 63% versus 53% of men.
What is causing buyers in the UK not to want hybrid or electric cars? Buyers clearly are willing to buy low emissions cars but have an aversion to electric and even hybrid vehicles.
