. The car is due to go on sale in 2014, but it could be revealed in very late 2013. All of Mini's models will slowly transition to this new platform, and it might get even more model variants.

-inspired compact and a sedan for the Asian market. A five-door hatchback has also been caught testing.

If all of this sounds like a lot of work, remember all of the models will ride on the same platform and use the same engines. Basically, BMW will build various tops to the platforms and tune the suspension to suit the need.

The engine will be BMW's new modular engine family. These engines allow BMW to create up to a 3.0-liter inline six in petrol and diesel versions based on modular 500cc cylinders. The Minis will use the turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-cylinder version of this family in petrol and diesel forms, but John Cooper Works models could potentially use the 2.0-liter four-cylinder version. The six-speed manual transmission will carry over from the current car, and there will be a new eight-speed automatic. It should be enough to give some models sub-100g/km of CO2 emissions

All-wheel drive will continue to be available on the crossovers, but it might find its way into other variants as well.

An exact debut date has not been revealed yet, but the new Mini will definitely be on the roads in 2014.
