has announced that it will have eight new cars by 2015 that it will sell specifically to emerging markets by 2015.
"In emerging markets, there are four or five automakers vying to take the lead in sales volumes. Particularly in the Southeast Asian region, Volkswagen and others are looking to challenge our lead so we can't be resting on our laurels," said Toyota Executive Vice President Yukitoshi Funo.
The Etios is the first of these cars, and it has been on sale since 2010. It believes that, including the 7 other cars it will introduce, the combined sales will be around 1 million vehicles.
The cars are priced at around $12,600 and are produced local to the region where they are sold.
