Touring Sports estate will take up about a quarter of the model's sales when the new Auris goes on sale. However, it also wants the Auris to become a stronger player in Europe. That might include building an Auris hot hatch. 

Head of Toyota Product Planning EU Karl Schlicht said that while a faster Auris is “not a number one priority," but if the new Auris proves to be a sales success, then there might be "room to experiment."

“The key thing for us is to run a good business first, and then start having fun later,” said Schlicht.

The previous Auris held 4.5% of the European C-segment. Toyota's goal is to get the new generation to 5.5% market share.
