EV P002Toyota TMG EV P002Japan, 2013 > 2013 has completed its testing shakedown at the Carolina Motorsports Park ahead of competing at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 30. The car is based on the EV P002 that holds the electric car record around the Nürburgring Nordschleife but has been modified with more downforce and more power for Pikes Peak. Multiple Pikes Peak winner Rod Millen will drive it.
“The balance was very good and the car behaved predictably at all times. This racecar is unique and I really appreciated the seat time in the car. This gave me the chance to learn about the advanced electric powertrain capabilities and I could experience how the car changes over a race distance. Even when the tires were past their best at the end the car was still fast and controllable," said Millen.
After two days of testing, the engineers have fine-tuned the car's aerodynamics and suspension for the hill climb. The team installed carbon- ceramic brakes. They also focused on driver comfort.
The Pikes Peak tune of the P002 has 536hp and 885lb-ft of torque. The added front wing and changes to the rear wing increase downforce by three times over the previous version, but the overall weight has also been reduced. The car will hit a top speed of 230km/h.
