will run a test of its EV charging infrastructure from November 15, 2013, to March 15, 2014, in Gamagori City, Toyohashi City, Nishio City and Kota Town, Japan.

The test will include 40 chargers, in addition to the 32 chargers that were installed in the four cities by Toyota last year. The new chargers will be put at places like hotels and tourist sites. They will test new, more user-friendly authentication methods. Toyota will also promote the new chargers with posters and promotional materials displayed around each city.

The new authentication system issues users membership cards that are scanned whenever a vehicle is charged. The chargers at tourist sites will also accept 100-yen coins to pay for charging.

The test is part of Toyota’s attempt to create a Japan-wide vehicle charging network.
