has opened a 1.1-megawatt hydrogen fuel cell generator at its North American headquarters in Torrance, California. The generator will supply about half of the energy needed to power the campus' six buildings but will have zero emissions.
The generator is the largest Proton Exchange Membrane in the world and is powered by an existing hydrogen gas pipeline.
“Supporting alternative energy sources like hydrogen supports Toyota’s overarching commitment to lessen our impact on the environment and drive forward innovative technology. Not only will this new hydrogen fuel cell generator reduce the environmental footprint of our headquarters campus, but it showcases the power and potential of hydrogen as a fuel source," said Bob Daly, Toyota senior vice president.
