Today was a huge day for sports car racing and prototype news. Toyota has announced that it will run one of its TS030s in the entire World Endurance Championship excluding Sebring, and it will have two cars entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The TS030 driven by Alexander Wurz, Nicholas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima will contest all of the races in the WEC other than the 12 Hours of Sebring, which include the 6 Hours of Spa, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 6 Hours of Silverstone, possibly the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo (the race has not yet been confirmed on the calendar), 6 Hours of Bahrain, 6 Hours of Fuji and 6 Hours of China.
The team will have two cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The second car's driver lineup has not been totally confirmed yet, but it will include Hiroaki Ishiura who currently drives for Toyota in the Japanese Super GT series. The team said that it can not confirm the other drivers for a few days until the contracts are signed.
“The circumstances for the championship changed suddenly in the last weeks and TOYOTA Racing considers it important to work together with the FIA and ACO to establish a successful future for endurance racing. We have done everything we can to show our support and we look forward to an exciting season, including the opportunity to race two cars at Le Mans,” said Team President Yoshiaki Kinoshita.
