Mark Webber was the clear winner of this Sunday's Spanish GP. The Red Bull driver that started in pole-position commanded the race since the beggining to clinch his first win of the season, the fourth of his career. Home favourite Fernando Alonso was the runner-up in Montemeló circuit and the podium was completed by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel.
For the tenth consecutive time in the Catalunya circuit the driver that started in the pole-position went on to clinch victory. In a circuit were it is very difficult to overtake the statistics continued to rule. In the early stages of the race Mark Webber starting to enlarge the gap between him and his closest rivals. Most of the race the Aussie just had to control his advantage.
In the beggining of the race the two Red Bulls were leading but after the first tyres exchange Vettel lost the runner-up position to McLaren's Lewis Hamilton. The British driver seemed to be safe in second position but with only two laps to go a flattened tyre forced him to crash. The late exit from the McLaren driver gave Vettel a place in the podium after a difficult race where the German had some technical problems in his RB6 Renault.
Michael Schumacher had his best performance of the season. The German was fourth defending his position from McLaren's Jenson Button, The Brit always looked to be held by the seven-time world champion, but didn't manage to overtake him.
Behind them Felipe Massa closed up, taking advantage of the fight between the two drivers but his challenge almost came to an end when he touched the back of HRT's Chandhok.
Force India's Adrian Sutil came in seventh place ahead of Renault's Robert Kubica that after a poor first lap couldn't do better than eighth place.
In the opposite way Rubens Barrichello recovered most of the ground in the first laps ending up in ninth spot ahead of lucky Alguersuari who clinhced a point for Toro Rosso benefitting from Hamilton's late exit.
Nico Rosberg ended up as a big disappointment. The German seems like he hasn't adapted well to changes in the Mercedes chassis and couldn't do better than 13th place behind Renault's Vitaly Petrov and Sauber's Kobayashi.
In the driver's standings with 70 points Jenson Button continues to lead with a three-point advantage over Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, ahead of Sebastian Vettel with 60. With his win in Spain Webber climbed to fourth position in the championship. As for the Constructor's standings. McLaren has stolen the lead from Ferrari that now is placed ahead Red Bull.
