Vettel: 2010 Formula One World Champion

Vettel became the youngest ever driver to win the Formula One World Championship after he won the last Grand Prix of the 2010 season at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. At the age of 23 and 134 days, the German got the best of Alonso, Webber and Hamilton in the battle for the world title and came from third to first spot in the overall standings. Alonso and Webber were seventh and eighth, while Hamilton was second.

Right from the start of the action on today's race Sebastien Vettel took the lead, only letting it go for a few laps to Jenson Button after changing tyres. But what was important for Vettel's title was what happened behind the German.

Although Alonso started as pre-race favourite, only needing to grab fourth place to secure the title, the Spaniard failed to perform after spending most of the afternoon looking at the yellow back of Vitaly Petrov's Renault.

Between the front-runners and title contenders, Nico Rosberg and both Renault drivers with different strategies managed to clinch fourth, fifth and sixth, ahead of Alonso and Webber, in seventh and eighth.

The decisive part of the race was triggered by the early visit from Webber to the pits to change the set of tyres. At the time Webber was following in the back of Alonso and was having a hard time to control his car.

Webber came out in 16th place behind Jaime Alguersuari's Toro Rosso. Trying to place him ahead of the Red Bull driver, Ferrari made Felipe Massa come in as well but the tactic failed, as the Brazilian came in behind the Aussie.

Ferrari then tried to secure that Alonso would remain ahead of Webber and called him in. He stayed in front but that strategy failed as it didn't predict Nico Rosberg and Vitaly Petrov in its contability. Having pitted under a safety on the first lap they were still ahead of Alonso that was ahead of Webber but far from the fourth place that would deny the world title to go to Vettel.

While Alonso was being held by Vitaly Petrov and with Rosberg ahead with an advantage of two seconds, Robert Kubica stayed out on the same set of tyres further time and managed to climb up the order into fifth.

Kubica also found himself in the battle for the race win as he splitted the two drivers, which gave the opportunity for Vettel to grab a comfortable lead that would handle him the wolrd title.

The Pole managed to increase his advantage over Alonso and Petrov and when he pitted he came ahead of both.

The top-ten at the end at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was completed by Alguersuari and Massa.
