It was a thrilled Sebastian Vettel that climbed to the highest place in the podium after clinching victory at Kuala Lumpur's Malaysian GP. In the Sepang circuit the German driver got the best of his team-mate Mark Webber and Mercedes GP Nico Rosberg.
After being denied two almost certain victories in Bahrain and Australia due to mechanical problems, the young German beat the whole pack winning his first race of the season. Starting in third place Vettel passed Webber and Rosberg in the first turns assuming the command of the race until the end, with his team-mate being the only one able to follow his pace.
Teams Ferrari and McLaren had a lot of ground to make up after a disappointing qualifying session. Hamilton had the best perfomance of the four drivers, climbing to tenth position in the first lap. He would end up the race in sixth place behind Renault's Robert Kubica and Force India's Adrian Sutil.
As for Jenson Button and the Ferrari drivers, after a slower start they had to make bigger efforts to overtake a very consisten Jaime Alguersuari. After passing the Spaniard Massa took off securing sixth position, leaving Button and Alonso fighting for seventh place. With two laps to go a mechanical problem saw the Ferrari driver retire from the race, leaving Sepang with no points.
Jaime Alguersuari and William's Nico Hulkenberg grabbed the last scoring positions in Malaysia.They were followed by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Buemi and Williams' Rubens Barrichello.
In the new coming teams championship, Virgin's Luca di Grassi got the best result, ahead of the two HRT's of Chandhok and Bruno Senna and a slow paced Jarno Trulli, in his Lotus.
Mercedes GP former F1 champion Michael Schumacher had his first retirement of the season. Mechanical problems forced him out of the race in the early stages.
In the standings Felipe Massa took first place from his team-mate and now has a lead of two point over the Spaniard and Sebastian Vettel. The two drivers are followed closely by Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg. In the manufacturers championship Ferrari continues to lead ahead of McLaren and Red Bull.
