Virgin Racing race presents its VR-01

Virgin Racing has become the first newcomer team to unveil its challenger for the 2010 FIA F1 World Championship. Virgin opted for an “all-digital” launch, in line with its “all-digital car”.

The VR-01 was created by design company Wirth Research using computational fluid dynamics rather than using a wind tunnel, and designer Nick Wirth is excited to see the result on track “I have absolute belief in the digital design process and the opportunity to put the all-CFD approach to the test at the highest level - to demonstrate that this could be the way for the future of F1 - is very, very exciting.”

The Virgin Racing F1 project was launched in December, with the presentation of Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock as offcia drivers of the team. The first tests will happen in Jerez, when Virgin will join the rest of the F1 field for the second winter test

For CEO Graeme Lowdon the “full testing debut of the VR-01 in Spain next week will provide the first real barometer of what we have achieved over the past 10 months” but for him “simply getting to this point is an incredible achievement in itself.”
