The factory took two years to build and has only completed its first phase. The second phase of construction will double capacity to 600,000 cars a year.
"Volkswagen in China stands for both green mobility and sustainable growth. Our new plant in Foshan combines state-of-the-art technology with particularly efficient resource management," said Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Volkswagen Group CEO in China.
The new factory is the first auto factory in China to get a Triple-Star Green Building Award because 100% of its wastewater is treated on-site and reused and 90% of production waste and packaging is recycled.
The factory will build the Golf, Audi A3Audi A3 Gen.3 [Typ 8V]Germany, 2012 > present275 versions

and other vehicles using VW’s MQB platform.
This is the third factory from the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture in China, and four more are currently under construction.
China is VW Group’s largest single market. It has sold 2.05 million cars there through August 2013, up 17.9% from the same period in 2012.
