for over a year. The car will take another test at the Rally d'Italia in Sardinia in October.

The car had run as the zero car, which is the car that checks the stage by going first, at the Acropolis Rally, but the FIA denied it the opportunity at the Sardinia Rally later this year. Instead, the team will run the rally as a noncompetitive test car.

"We can't run as zero car, but it looks like we will take a test run in Sardinia. We will not run competitively; they allow us to start the race, but we will not take times. We get the answer from the FIA on this subject this week," said team marketing manager Stefan Moser. 

The plan is for the car to begin as an actual competitor at the beginning of next season. 

Hopefully, VW will be a series to race in given that the Rally Monte Carlo is the only round confirmed for next season.
